About Bend Family Friends

Committed To Kindness

Bend Family Friends started as a shared idea between co-founders Lisa McCormick and Gunnar Peterson. With over 35 years of experience in providing in-home supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we knew that there needed to be better 24-hour residential care options for the folks that we support, so we set out to do something about it. Our sole focus is to provide the best services possible to a vastly underserved part of our community. We believe that dignity, respect, and empathy go a long way in helping our BFFs foster value and purpose within themselves and in their communities.

Mission Statement

At Bend Family Friends, our mission is to provide compassionate and nurturing homes for intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives with dignity and purpose. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters growth, independence, and a sense of inclusivity for each resident.

Core Values:

  1. Compassionate Care: We believe in treating every individual with empathy, respect, and unconditional acceptance. Our team of dedicated caregivers is committed to understanding the unique needs and preferences of each resident, ensuring they receive personalized care that honors their individuality.

  2. Empowerment: We strive to empower our residents to reach their full potential by encouraging self-expression, autonomy, and active participation in decision-making. Through personalized support plans, we provide opportunities for skill-building, education, and personal growth.

  3. Inclusivity and Belonging: We celebrate diversity and create an inclusive community where all residents feel valued and embraced. We promote a culture that appreciates the richness of each individual's background, experiences, and abilities.

  4. Family-Centered Approach: We understand the importance of family and loved ones in the lives of our residents. We actively involve families and caregivers in the care planning process and encourage open communication and collaboration to ensure the best possible outcomes for each individual.

  5. Continuous Improvement: We are dedicated to advancing our knowledge and practices in the field of care for intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals. We strive for continuous improvement through research, staff training, and staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in care and therapies.

  6. Safety and Security: We prioritize the safety and security of our residents, providing a protected environment that allows them to explore and learn while feeling secure and supported at all times.

  7. Advocacy and Awareness: Bend Family Friends is committed to advocating for the rights and inclusion of intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals in society. We actively promote awareness and understanding to foster a more compassionate and inclusive community.

By embodying these core values, Bend Family Friends aims to be a model of how group homes should operate, enrich the lives of our residents, and make a positive impact on the wider community's perception and treatment of intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals.
